Therapeutic Methods

This a very interesting area for Nuclear Medicine. Early in its development, jointly with diagnostic procedures for thyroid diseases, treatment with 131-I was introduced . This tool is still an important one for benign and malignant conditions.  In most recent times, other methods have been implemented, mostly as palliative therapies, which are the case of osteoblastic bone metastasis and neuroendocrine tumors.

Currently, diagnostic methods make up about 80% of all the techniques and it is expected hopefully, an increment of therapeutic techniques in the future to more than 20%. The treatments currently of value will be discussed in more detail.
