Dypiridamole is 2,6-Bis(diethanolamino)-4,8-dipiperidinopyrimido [5,4-d]-pyrimidine compound, coronary vasodilator, which acts via adenosine. Its effect is on small vessels in the coronary territory and slightily in the systemic circulation. Therefore, augments coronary flow up to 400%, with a mild diminution of blood pressure, mild heart rate increase and no oxygen consumption increment. It produces nausea, vomitus, dizziness and headache, which are easily controlled by aminophylline given intravenously.
