PET-CT BREAST CANCER RECURRENCE DETECTION
Female, 42
year old with right breast carcinoma already operated on and bearing brain, bone and liver
metastasis. Presents with large lymphnodes in the right axilla. PET-CT
shows intense FDG concentration in the right axilla (A, B and C), multiple
mediastinal and lung metastasis (C) and several liver lesions especially in the
right lobe (D).
Murakami R et al evaluated
forty-seven patients with recurrent breast cancer with FDG PET/CT.
"The overall sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative
predictive value, and accuracy of PET/CT were 96%, 91%, 92%, 95%, and 94%,
respectively. PET/CT appears to be an effective surveillance tool, as it
is able to cover the whole body in a single procedure and shows good
performance."
