131I Hyperthyroidism Therapy Administration
- Refer to Dose Estimation for the amount to give.
- Radioiodine is given orally on an outpatient basis.
- Detail in written form radiation protection directions to patient.
- Check patient's ID and dose to give.
- In severe thyrotoxycosis and marked ofthalmopathy, use of oral prednisone 0.3-0.5 mg/kg starting same day of 131-I administration and for up to 3 months is recommended, to decrease probability of thyroid storm and ocular involvement progression, respectively.
