INDICATIONS AT DISCHARGE FOR PATIENTS RECEIVING TREATMENT WITH I 131 FOR THYROID CANCER
Write down patient's name, date and dosimetry (mrem/h/m or uSv/h/m) in the form.
Patient must:
- Go home in a private vehicle or taxi, using the the back seat and
in diagonal with the driver.
- Eat a diet without restrictions.
- Should start thyroid replacement hormones next day of discharge and after
whole body scan.
- Stay home isolated from people for 7 days beginning the day of radioiodine
administration. Include dates from start to end, inclusives.
- Patient may get up, watch TV, talk on the phone, use computer, go outside,
etc..
- Sleep alone during the isolation period.
- Avoid contact with children (under 14 years) and pregnant women.
- Keep distance from adults at 1 meter or more.
- Separate bed linen, lingerie and pajamas, keeping them in a plastic bag. At
the end of isolation wash them separately.
- Wash hands thoroughly after using the bathroom.
- Follow the advice of physician or endocrinologist and pick up report of radioiodine
treatment and whole body scan.
